As professional wedding planners, our Inspired Occasions team gets work in a variety of beautiful locations each year. It is a special treat when we get to coordinate at a venue for the first time and even more special when the venue is incredibly unique like the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art aka Mass MoCA. When Sarah and Mike came to us for help planning and coordinating their wedding, one thing was clear from the get go. They are anything but a traditional couple so their selection of this stunning museum as the setting for their nuptials was no surprise. They wanted to revisit the scene of their first date and do a wedding their way so we got busy coming up with a plan to take advantage of everything this unique location has to offer.
A renovated 19th century factory, Mass MoCA has incredible event spaces to choose from. From the rustic industrial museum lobby and outdoor courtyard spaces to the eclectic gallery spaces that continually change with exhibitors, couples have little to do to create ambiance for their guests. The venue is the design. For Sarah and Mike, we decided to play with the customary timeline of events to give their guests an experience more typical of an art gallery opening than a wedding.
Upon arrival in the museum lobby, guests were treated to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before moving into
the Sol LeWitt Gallery for the wedding ceremony and then into the Building 5 Gallery for a sit down dinner catered by Gramery Bistro, a fantastic restaurant and caterer located right on the campus of Mass MoCA. When bellies were full and the cake was cut, guests continued through the museum’s exhibits back to the lobby for the desserts and dance party.
The highlight for guests? They attended a wedding AND got a rare nighttime tour of an incredible museum.
The highlight for Sarah and Mike was a wedding that was a true representation of who they are and wedding photos as dramatic, offbeat and artistic as the magical venue that served as their backdrop.
The highlight for Inspired Occasions . . . The opportunity to create a wedding experience as unique as its location and working with the group of incredibly talented vendors who helped make it all happen: Mass MoCA, Gramercy Bistro, Encore Audio Services, Aleksandr Verbetsky, Midav Films, Mt. Williams Greenhouses, Time Capsule Photobooths.
